The new video from electronic music duo Les Sewing Sisters is an out and out condemnation of boring fashion. The hilarious “Banality Attack” features Lun*na Menoh and Saori Mitome miming and vocalizing, along with images from their home tour of 2019 and early 2020. That tour found them performing their visionary music in homes around Los Angeles, while perusing the contents of closets and drawers, showing their displeasure.
“Banality Attack,” the second video release from their upcoming album, features fun graphics and an awareness of fashion that comes from the ladies’ work in the garment industry. as costume stylists. The music itself is made entirely from sounds of sewing machines, processed electronically in various ways. It’s a mix of musique concrète, new wave and hard electronica that’s created using most peculiar methods.
Composer Menoh, who created the video, is a visual artist who has designed costumes for decades, first in her native Japan and then around the world in a variety of art and fashion shows, specializing in outrageous and wild creations. No wonder then that she finds that most of what we have in our wardrobes is “all wrong.”
“What you have in your closet
Looks all the same
What a shame
You have no one to blame, sorry”
From “Banality Attack”
