The Scientific Futurism Of Richard Evans’ ‘Brave New World’

The pristine electronic music and futuristic message of Richard Evans’ new video for “Brave New World” feature resonances of Aldous Huxley’s 1932 novel of the same name. Huxley and Evans share a country, and similar sensibilities—and while Huxley was merely imaging the future, Evans is speaking of the present.

In a brief interview following the music video, Evans tells of the public health crisis in which plastic particles are found in the wombs of expectant mothers. While Huxley was concerned with artificial wombs creating babies in Brave New World, in his song, Evans addresses the DNA change of plastics in our environment as well as as designer children. “What inspired the song,” he says,” is they’ve even found the microparticles in wombs and fetuses, and it’s fed through breastmilk. So you’ve got this whole generational impact of this tiny stuff that we can’t see. And it’s me wondering ‘what does that do to us? Does that start to change our DNA, does that start to change the physical makeup of a person. It’s in food, it’s in the air – it’s that whole thing of what that does on a genetic level.”

Richard Evans just released “Sentinel,” his stunning album of electronica, on Cold Star Media.

The tune is totally at home in 2022, featuring sparkling synths including the Korg Wavestate and the Roland Fantom creating a great tune for the dance floor and a potential pop hit with pleasingly catchy beats and melodies. “Brave New World” comes from the album Sentinel, a guardedly optimistic work of brilliant synthpop, released in January and supported with multimedia live shows.  With “Brave New World” Evans celebrates Sentinel’s release in CD format on Cold Star Media.
