TURNTABLE: NOVEMBER 2022 ELECTRONIC MUSIC COLLECTION

Nov 10, 2022
Synthbeat dot com presents Turntable, featuring some hot new electronic music tracks

By Keith Walsh
The past few weeks have seen no shortage of great electronic music, from legacy artists to newcomers.

.PHNX With Roberto Montoya “Arcadia”
Producer .PHNX was inspired by his musical heroes to get into production. For his latest project, he teams up with vocalist/guitarist/synthesist Roberto Montoya to create Neon Ballet, an 80s-inspired tribute to video game culture. “Arcadia” combines the excitement of arcade fun with techno pop beats and grooves, and a sound not unlike the “Stranger Things” theme. Both .PHNX (Connor Williams) and Montoya are from Austin, TX.

Faith Marie “NVM (Remix)”
This electro remix of Faith’s earlier song “NVM” (a rephrasing of the word “Nevermind”) captures the spirit of questioning that comes from a journey of self-discovery. Originally from Utah but relocated to Los Angeles, Faith is a keyboard based singer/songwriter. The remix is by ELL.

The Screaming Pope “Hopes And Aspirations”
This single from the brilliant album Accomplished Mugician captures only a small part of the magnificence of what creator George Bolton can do. The tranquil guitar loop morphs into a dance beat, along with various fluid loops and textures.

Berlin “On My Knees”
Terri Nunn and her crew flex their melodic muscles on this power ballad. It starts off as a delicate song, only to reveal the passion behind the tranquility. From the 2019 album Transcendance, “On My Knees” encapsulates all of the struggle between light and darkness that Berlin is known from ever since Pleasure Victim from 1982.

Ronan Conroy “Dark Paradise”
This Lana Del Rey cover translates well to the male perspective.  The production of “Dark Paradise allows lots of space for the vocals and minimalist beats to shine through. It’s equally parts goth and synthpop. Ronan plays guitars and sings, while Charlie Nieland delivers the synths and bass guitar.

Al1ce “Time”
Pulsing with energy, “Time” is a skillfully crafted electro-goth tune by this Los Angeles based band. Tash Cox on lead vocals is convincingly seductive, as is Sasha Travis on background vocals. The video is beautifully shot, showing this powerful band in action.

Sicky “Garbage Town”
This catchy single strides the fine line between post punk and electronic production. I’m betting there are synths buried in the mix behind the distorted guitars. Even if there aren’t, the guitars are processed to the extent that they’re essentially electronic instruments. The snarky criticism of society in this song balances negativity with defiance. It’s from the upcoming album of the same name.

A Shoreline Dream “Harlow Syndrome”
The mix of this tune features heavy synth bass, distorted guitars that push the limits of what guitars can sound like, and heavily reverbed vocals. It’s dark, catchy and energetic, from the new album Loveblind. It’s trippy and experimental, with minimal groove and heavy on the psychedelia.
