Roberto Montoya (Icons Of Industry, Neon Ballet) teamed up with GLIWRE for a stunning new dark dance track, ‘Darc Geometry.’ The production and grooves by GLIWRE are powerfully brilliant, and the lyrics? I asked Montoya to explain, as I wondered if they went against his Christian faith. Aren’t they about the heretical Sacred Geometry craze?
Montoya told me: “No, it’s not about that. It’s just a poem that I made from random phrases I made up. I found a vocal melody I liked and just found some sentences that fit the phrasing.” Regardless of the intent, I found the lyrics mysterious and even subversive. Montoya added: “(they’re) gibberish, pretty much.”
I inquired further about the poetry of the lyrics. Montoya explained:
The title comes from the line ‘A very basic form of geometry Has found its way into our telemetry.’ Like I mentioned earlier, I just made it up to fit the vocal melody I wanted. The genre is darkwave or dark disco so I spelled the word Darc as a play on ‘arc’ from mathematics to tie it into “geometry.”
I asked how the two artists met: “I met Gliwre sometime last year when he posted in the Synthwave FB group about looking for a vocalist,” Montoya said. “He was working on an album with a Slovakian artist named SMART. The album is called 1982 Palms Blvd. and I recorded vocals on a song called Neon Hills. The album drops on the 31st.
Montoya is located in Austin, Texas, and Gliwre is in Slovakia.
