Irish singer songwriter Perry Blake released his eponymous debut album in 1998, establishing himself almost immediately as a musical force to be reckoned with. Following 2021’s Songs Of Praise, Blake will release his new album, Death Of A Society Girl on June 21.

The heartbreaking single of the same name is out now, featuring two spoken word interludes by Paul McGann (Withnail & I, Dr. Who) and a beautifully cinematic video. It starts out as a minimalistic electronic tune, staying true to the ethereal beauty he’s known for, with organ, deep synth bass, digital percussion, and vocals. As the theme develops, Blake’s reflective stance deepens:

I watched that world go by
Through the eyes of child
That’s how I learned the truth

Oh, the world has changed so much
We should have stayed in touch
I wonder where you are?

Blake’s 1998 debut, titled Perry Blake, is an atmospheric set of masterly compositions, with electronic sounds and beats, and Blake’s rich, majestic voice narrating stories about life in Ireland and beyond. The only place I could find it at this time is on YouTube. Not to worry, Death Of A Society Girl, co-written with long time collaborator Graham Murphy, promises more musical gems from Blake.
