With a shockingly great synthpop tune and video, British electronica trio Agency-V get dark and sinister. In just under four minutes, “We Can Erase You” attacks your brain through your eyes and ears leaving you nearly helpless. (My Q&A with Agency V is at PopularCultureBeat.com).

With a chorus of “Maybe I need to explain/I’ll take you down again/this is a choice that we made/maybe it’s time to erase” vocalist Marie Williamson (Silverscene, After Dark) makes ‘their’ intentions plain. Backed by Peter Steer (Tenek, Tin Gun, Decade 8) on guitars, bass, synths and programming, and Lloyd Price (The Frixion) on synths and programming, the effect is ominous, if also hauntingly melodic.

With ‘We Can Erase You,’ Agency-V Captures A Dark And Unsettling Vision

There’s some influence of early 80s Gary Numan here, not only in the theme of dehumanization, but also in the square wave synthesizer riff and the bursts of dirty electric guitar. Formed in the UK during the COVID lockdowns, Agency-V released their debut EP No Divide in 2020. Their debut full length disc will be out this summer.

The futuristic vision of “We Can Erase You” was filmed at North 17 Studios In London.
