Margot Day Wows With Glammy Goth “Rock The Shadows Roll The Moon”

Margot Day with Metamorph

By Keith Walsh
When I was introduced to the music of Margot Day aka Metamorph a few years ago, I found her campy, witchy goth act fun and charming. Still, there was something about the style of her earlier music with the band The Plague in NYC of the 80s that I found rawer and more heart pounding.

It seems Day has a newly strengthened hand, with the song “Rock The Shadows Roll The Moon” that mixes the authenticity of her Plague years with the camp of the newer work, in a way that’s fun, poetically dark, and very stylish.  There’s catchy sing along lyrics, grungy guitars in the chorus, and an innovative flute solo demonstrating that sometimes movement between just a few tones is all that’s necessary. The lyrics are also minimal, but inventive and effective with their imagery:

Erik Gustafson catches a cool vibe here with his production, capturing the spirit of the song in a fun way.  We’re looking forward to an album of magic tunes like this and the previous single, “Cauldron Bubble Pop.”
